We entered the Retrograde shadow on July 31.

Astrologers tell us that Mercury Retrograde is a time when nothing works and we shouldn't even bother trying-- that would only lead to more errors.

Astrologers are slightly off.

The interesting thing about Retrogrades is that you can make progress-- it's just not conscious. During Mercury Retrograde stations, our thinking is more in the unconscious realm. So we miss more minor details, creating more clerical errors. Right after Sunday's Full Moon there is a major culmination of a long-term opposition of Saturn and Uranus (see the blog entry on this page).

Tuesday, Mercury enters Virgo. Instead of the usual 3 weeks Mercury spends in a sign, Mercury will remain in Virgo through October 3 due to an upcoming Retrograde station (August 20 - September 12). This is the perfect time to go back to school, continue your education, get clear on the facts. Just kinda sorta knowing something can get you caught up in a mental tape loop.... But by the grace of Mercury, we now have until October 3 (when Mercury enters Libra) to learn something we can put to practical everyday use.

Jupiter is conjunct Uranus and Saturn is conjunct Saturn. Saturn-Mars opposes Jupiter-Uranus, and crisscross to form a Mystic Rectangle. And the Mercury-Neptune opposition goes right through the middle, forming a YOD to Neptune-Chiron. That means that both opposition intersects and form trines and sextiles. This is helpful. This is fateful. It shows that despite all the vast and serious differences, and they are strong, there are solutions; cooperation is possible. Healing is possible. But it depends on how we behave, our attitude, the choices we make.

Friday, July 30 is a Mars day! The Moon is void of course in Pisces for most of the day, so it's a slow start. This is the longest void in awhile. It starts Thursday night and goes through Friday in the late afternoon. During the void, Mars, just into Libra, opposes Uranus in (Mars-ruled) Aries, while the Moon enters Aries and conjuncts Uranus. This is a lot of hectic impulsive energy. It can feel stressful or spontaneous--depending on how you see it!

Yet, as Mars, ruler of Aries, opposes Uranus, it is also approaching a conjunction with Saturn. This cautions us to slow down! If you can have the patience to slow down and listen carefully, you may be able to approach a complicated situation. If you use your energy carefully, it will burn slow.

It's coming close to that time of year again! We're approaching one of the 3 yearly Mercury Retrograde stations-- in Virgo. On Saturday, July 31, Mercury enters the "shadow zone" of the Retrograde phase. This means that on Saturday, Mercury will be at the degree it will Retrograde back to in August.... more info and complete timetable

Sunday, Venus makes a semisquare to the Sun. This is rare because Venus and the Sun are not often that far apart (45 degrees). But-- they are now because Venus is far ahead of the Sun (45 degrees), which is why she's so bright in the evening sky. It also means Venus is getting closer to a Retrograde station (October 8). When Venus is far enough ahead of the Sun to make a semisquare, we are usually at a point of overindulging in friends and fun. Just one more! But are we having fun, or are we feeling socially pressured to spend and party. How much fun and food is too much?!

Magical Full Moon on Midsummer Eve July 25, 2010

This is also part of the longer post on the Saturn-Uranus opposition: Schism in the ism, and some updates!

The opposition of Saturn and Uranus is joined by yet another opposition-- a Full Moon!

When the Moon is Full, the Sun and Moon are exactly opposite.

This Full Moon is in Leo (Sun) and Aquarius (Moon). And this chart has blessings-- the Sun is sextile Saturn-Mars and trine Uranus-Jupiter; while the Moon is trine Saturn-Mars and sextile Uranus-Jupiter. There is potential for cooperation.

But is only a potential because cooperation involves moving beyond yourself. It means looking more realistically at some of the irrational expectations that keep us separated and angry at each other for not fulfilling roles that are not part of the agreement. But since we have a fear of being open and giving, we hide behind defenses and anger. Yet, we have a choice: grow up and make peace, or keep making war on whoever we can! Peace starts within and radiates out. You can do it, but you have to be willing to be cooperative instead of looking for every way you can to "get over" and take all, regardless of whether you "can" or not.

Many of us are under a lot of pressure-- to perform, earn, maintain, care, be there, produce, be happy. We are encouraged to specialize so we can earn a better living. We put all our energy into one direction and feel greater resistance (Saturn) to everything else. The Mystic Rectangle includes the potential that if we can accept and look at the resistance we feel, we can start to find others possibilities. But we may not want to put our energy anyplace else! We insist, it HAS to be this way!!!

Yet, there are energies and forces beyond the rational. Ideas that grip deeper, archetypal parts of our inner selves, and take us on a journey.....

The Saturn-Uranus opposition, along with the Full Moon can give us some perspective on the resistance we feel, and that perspective just may show us an opening, a different approach, a way through. And that may even be an improvement we never thought of before right now! The resistance we feel may be more about how we use whatever power and authority we have, more than how others use it against us. How are you contributing to the sabotage of others, and even more so, your own Self sabotage. Blaming it on others doesn't get you off anything! But there is hope, if you self-regulate!

This Full Moon is also Midsummer Night, the night of mistaken identities and magical shifts between the worlds. The line between conscious and unconscious is blurred. And the trine of the Sun to Jupiter and Uranus shows that anything is possible! Miracles can happen, dreams can suddenly come true.

This is the big day! FULL MOON rising tonight!

The Sun is in Leo! This is the rulership sign for the Sun, usually the hottest time of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere).

This year, as the Sun enters Leo, it makes a trine to Uranus, then Jupiter. There is excitement everywhere, we are stimulated and feeling our intuitive power!

And as we feel that warm glow of Leo-Sun energy combined with Uranus and Jupiter, our intuition can give us new ways of looking at old challenges. Friends and groups can influence and stimulate you, so get out there and mix with the crowd -- anything can happen, and you just may be feeling friendly and positive enough to attract success beyond your wildest dreams!

Double YOD
Another aspect the Sun makes as it enters Leo is a double YOD. The Sun sextile Saturn (and Mars) creates a YOD to Neptune-Chiron; While the Moon-Pluto conjunction sextiles Neptune-Chiron and creates a YOD to the SUN. We are all personally responsible for our growth and spiritual evolution. We need both our ego and our inner spiritual wisdom. Will we just act out of habit? A double YOD is an opportunity to see something 2 ways at once. As humans, we are both ego and more than our ego. And to find our true, whole self, we need to honor our Selves. If we choose to honor the dignity that is our essential Self, acting out our negative emotions against another being will keep us moving directly towards a difficult fate. Or, we can see the inner dignity in all beings and choose to honor that.

Astrologically, this is a big week coming up! It culminates in a Full Moon on Sunday, and continues through next Monday when Saturn and Uranus oppose exactly. I've written a long blog about this historic (and long-term) opposition that has its final conclusion next Monday. There is much to be learned from the current astrology transits, or we can just keep pointing fingers....
